I have to take my younger son to catch a plane. It sucks because traffic there is starting to get as unbearable as LA. I have posted about my older son’s car project, but here is what the 13 year old is up to:
Look what they get to do:
He went to Space Camp last year and wanted to go back for robotics. He competed in hus school district’s robotics competition this year and finished second. (Dad moment: His teacher told us he did all the work and his partner was along for the ride). But he males sure we know that his first love is music. He plays piano and percussion, and just took up the bassoon.
He does his own thing.

Awesome! I took SWA out there from BHM about 6 months ago (stopover in LAS). It’s probably too late to tell you that OAK is the much better airport, especially coming from the east. Less frequent routes compared to SFO, though.
I hope he enjoys his time down here. Today will be 94 with a heat index of 105 and an air quality (smog/ozone) warning. Hooray for summer!

Holy crap that sounds awesome! For him, not you. Sounds like a great kid that’s earned this trip, too—

Dump him in Richmond or Freemont and tell him good luck on BART. Ha ha. I would never really do that, that is just cruel and possible very unsafe.

Very cool. My son has been involved in First Lego League for several years now. It’s a great way to introduce kids to engineering and programming. My daughter surprised us by asking to go to Cyber Camp this year. That’s a week-long camp focusing on security, programming, and robotics which culminates in their own version of Thunderdome. Eight teams go head-to-head in an arena. It wasn’t destructive like Robot Wars, but even though the primary goal was to collect marbles, part of the strategy was to take out the leading teams by flipping or cornering their bots. Some of the teams got pretty aggressive, making it a lot of fun to watch.

He’ll be back in my neck of the woods. I live about 60 miles west of Huntsville. Good to know that Space Camp is still a big deal and kids want to go to it.

Starting to?! It has been worse than LA for years. At least in my eyes
